“Despite their courage and great sacrifice, thousands of LGBTQI+ service members were forced out of the military because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Some of these patriotic Americans were subject to court-martial and have carried the burden of this great injustice for decades,” Mr.campaign made LGBTQ outreach a top priority this month with a presence at more than 200 Pride events and a media blitz aimed at mobilizing LGTBQ voters.

Anyone convicted of a nonconsensual sex act, such as rape, will not be pardoned, a senior administration official said. The discharge status of a service member determines the Veterans Affairs benefits open to them. For example, a bad-conduct discharge as the result of a court-martial would make someone ineligible for a home loan, military pension and education benefits.
