Jodi Benson, who provided the voice of Ariel in TheLittleMermaid, is showing her support for the casting of Halle Bailey.

"The most important thing is to tell the story. And we have, as a family, we have raised our children, and for ourselves, that we don’t see anything that’s different on the outside," the 57-year-old actress explained at a Florida convention on Saturday, via"I think that the spirit of a character is what really matters," she added."What you bring to the table in a character as far as their heart, and their spirit, is what really counts.

"We need to be storytellers," she said. "And no matter what we look like on the outside, no matter our race, our nation, the color of our skin, our dialect, whether I’m tall or thin, whether I’m overweight or underweight, or my hair is whatever color, we really need to tell the story." was Danish. Ariel...is a mermaid. She lives in an underwater kingdom in international waters and can legit swim wherever she wants ," their post stated."But for the sake of argument, let's say that Ariel, too, is Danish. Danish mermaids can be black because Danish *people* can be black. Ariel can sneak up to the surface at any time with her pals Scuttle and the *ahem* Jamaican crab Sebastian and keep that bronze base tight.

Freeform Defends Halle Bailey's 'Inspired' Casting in 'The Little Mermaid''[If] you still cannot get past the idea that choosing the incredible, sensational, highly talented, gorgeous Halle Bailey is anything other than the INSPIRED casting that it is because she 'doesn’t look like the cartoon one,' oh boy, do I have some news for you … about you,' Freeform wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday. 😂😂😂 How does anyone know that’s NOT what mermaids look like?! No need to defend the choice. The people she's trying to talk to aren't worth the effort. Just hit the scum with some Lysol and move on.

Network responds to 'Little Mermaid' backlash of Halle Bailey playing Ariel'Do I have some news for you...about you.' In a post dripping with sarcasm, Freeform responds to 'the Poor, Unfortunate Souls' upset over Halle Bailey's 'The Little Mermaid' casting: I knew it! She doesn’t look like an Ariel so she shouldn’t have the part! According to the book she had a pair of pretty white legs, long flowing hair and blue eyes. In the movie she was the daughter of Triton, Greek demigod and son of Poseidon. Following the source material (like they did for Mulan) means the wrong actress was casted. Period. Quit using twitter to try to score political points. Literally no one in the real world cares about what color skin Ariel has.
