Jobless claims jump, hitting highest level since mid-August.

The economy has recaptured some 11.4 million positions, or about half those who were sidelined. The unemployment rate has come down to 7.9% but is still more than double its pre-pandemic level. The insured unemployment rate, a simple measure that compares those receiving benefits against the total labor force, slid 0.9 percentage point to 6.8%.

However, recipients under the program accounted for more than half of those getting unemployment benefits as of Sept. 26. Those receiving benefits under the emergency claims portion of the pandemic program increased by more than 800,000, though that data also is two weeks old.

Let’s get a 1million claims week to get this stimulus moving.

Misleading headline, I was expecting way more than your chart shows

It's not a 'jump', but an increase in claims this close to holiday is strange. Perhaps due to California reopening applications and the Disney layoffs? Still, cont. claims continue to drop. And this slight increase has pressured stimulus talks.

Looks flat to me

The troubling part about this chart is how steady it's been since August

56,000 rise in new claims. 1,165,00 drop in continuing claims. CNBC chooses to accentuate the small increase, but leaves the huge decrease to page 2. This is how media influeces the narrative. They tell the truth, but highlight the negative and downplay the positive.

Our point of reference is a mere two months ago. That’s how dogshit the economy is!
