Jim Harbaugh Says Michigan “Got Extremely Lucky” on Apparent Botched Fake Punt by Ohio State

In the aftermath of Saturday’s loss to Michigan, one of the biggest questions Ryan Day received was why Ohio State did not go for it on 4th-and-5 at Michigan’s 43-yard line in the third quarter.

Jim Harbaugh revealed as much during his initial media availability of Big Ten Championship Game week on Sunday, as he and his staff discovered Ohio State was actually planning to run a fake punt.

“It’s not a question of coaching decision. They had decided – had it really wired to work. We had it wired to stop. We could have really stopped it. And then when they did snap it to their punter, we really should have blocked it.”

(Michigan fan here) He's absolutely right. Y'all had us dead to rights and it was only a 4 point game at that point. Who knows what would've happened had that play been ran correctly

This makes so much more sense now. The call was a fake punt, but we got snap infraction. We were going to stick with the fake anyway, but the C assumed the penalty had called off the fake. Everyone else still knew we were faking, which is why Mirco wasn’t ready and it was sloppy.

In a game where you need to minimize mistakes they made them ALL. False start on 2nd & 6....leads to fg, ONE missed tackle leads to 70 yard score, botched fake punt, P.I. on 3rd & 10....touchdown UM. Plus many more. THIS is why Buckeye fans are livid!

Wouldn’t have meant squat. Defense couldn’t stop a runny nose and the offense couldn’t move the ball if they had a tank in the backfield and two hypersonic missiles on the outside.

We fucked up everything in this game. Michigan deserved to win. They executed everything perfectt while we failed to cover anyone, stop the run in the second half, couldnt run our offense, not even disciplined enough to not head butt people on the sideline

This just can’t happen in big time games. It’s a head coach thing idc if you have a special teams coach. Urban would have been making sure they all knew what play torun. That’s why he was so good he was in everyone’s house making sure things were getting done.

Bad coaching it starts with coaching setting a standard so disappointed in this staff and team it’s not even funny. This is our ceiling we can’t get any better under Day he loses to Michigan next year and he has to go idc if he is 11-1 again
