Japan official to Kardashian West: Kimono belongs to Japan

Japan's trade minister says the kimono belongs to Japan — not to Kim Kardashian West's shapewear brand.

On Monday, West tweeted that she would launch her brand under a new name following careful thought and consideration. "Kimono is Japan's cultural pride that we boast to the world. Even in the United States, kimono is highly recognized as a Japanese thing," Seko told reporters."We hope the case is examined appropriately to reflect the purpose of the trademark system."

The planned kimono brand also triggered a backlash in Japan's ancient capital of Kyoto, home to many kimono makers and a popular tourist destination.

Japan needs to learn this is America and we are money makers and people pleases. Let this woman make coin . Kimono is not trademarked in the US

While I could care less what Kardashian West does, is this the only 'Japanese' apparel they want to keep to themselves? What about all the Japanese wearing baseball caps & other U.S. apparel? Seems silly to me.

Maybe American should tell people modern film is for America only, and nobody else is allowed to 'appropriate' our culture. This is a cross cultural influence, and meshing of fashion, marketing, & style. If you trade to the outside world, you open your culture. Get over it.
