After a nail-biting launch on Christmas Day, theThe JWST blasted off from French Guiana at 12:20 GMT on 25 December on top of an Ariane 5 rocket
Its next big manoeuvres were two course-correction burns, firing rocket thrusters to nudge the JWST towards its correct orbit around the sun, at a gravitationally stable location called L2 about 1.5 million kilometres from Earth. The two burns used less fuel than anticipated thanks to the accuracy of the Ariane 5 rocket, which means the JWST will have enough propellant to last “significantly” longer than its expected 10-year operation time, according to NASA engineers.
As this article was published, the first three layers had been deployed and tightened and the rest of the sunshield is expected to be tensioned today. However, the sequence could take longer depending on the data that the JWST’s engineers receive on the ground.
Does it travel to the blackhole?
This is an example of information lag- most of it went away when we invented the internet. As I like to say “Newspapers” yesterdays news tomorrow
Old headline….
Really Sunshield is deployed and tensioned days ago. Now the mirror wings are being deployed.
Negative headline too very poor
You should retitle yourself as 'Old Scientist'
My dear sir, Sunshield was fully deployed three days back and tightened as well. Who posts such BS without keeping pace with the reality. Secondary mirror was also deployed and now primary mirror deployment in process!
All looking nominal…
One of the great things about Twitter is that you don't have to publish days old news...
Sunshield is deployed bruh..
All 5 layers deployed yesterday. Successfully.
Third? Fourth time today you've tweeted this? All the time the procedure has been executed and completed. Your credibility is showing
Woah Super freaking negative take on this How about 'if everything goes right, we will have the most powerful tool ever made to observe the early universe' Please bring more positivity to the world 🙏
Thanks captain obvious...
Sun shield was deployed days ago. Appreciate the dramatic moment tho.
I was under the impression that sunshield was already deployed and tensioned... What gives?
hey, , could you please remove this 'Christmas Day' thing, since it's completely irrelevant for the mission? Also, JWST science comprises thousands of us that don't celebrate Christmas the same day, or don't celebrate at all, so take care of this fact as well.
Yeah.... It's already deployed... The sunshield..
pray
Hmmm that was yesterday and all 5 layers have now been tightened lol
Bit slow on the news here... They finished deploying it 6 hours ago...
Already completed.
lol
Santa will help and NASA engineering team .
Keeping my fingers crossed for a successful mission.
Whoa. No bad karma, positive vibes only, please.
