But as football season ended and the NCAA Contact Period began – allowing college coaches to visit high school campuses — Gardner noticed that not many schools were coming to see Smith. He wondered if they even knew he was back. After playing just a few weeks of competitive football last fall, Smith is 247Sports Composite’s No. 15 recruit in 2023.
