James Corden begged to return prehistoric monument discovered in his back garden

US talk show host James Corden is set to be asked by Jersey authorities to return a collection of prehistoric stones that sit in the back garden of his sprawling property

The 43-year-old television star, who is a late-night chat show host in the United States, also owns a home in Berkshire where an ancient stone circle sits on his land. The stones, that were originally placed on Corden's land in 1788, were actually removed from Jersey's capital St Helier and now authorities are hoping to get them back.

Known as a Neolithic dolmen, the collection of stones was freely given to Field Marshal Henry Seymour Conway over 300 years ago before they made their way to the UK.Speaking to the Jersey Post, the island's culture minister Kirsten Morel suggested that it would be a 'lovely idea' for the stones to be returned to where they once stood.

"This is not a situation like the Elgin Marbles because the dolmen was a gift from Jersey," she told the publication, "so there is no argument for having it back as a matter of principle. It would be a lovely idea but there is a long way to go." headtopics.com

A representative for James Corden has been approached by The Mirror for comment about the request. The stones in fact hail from a St Helier location where they were unearthed in the eighteenth century. At the time, the Governor of Jersey had been gifted the stones after he erected a series of defensive towers on the island to stop an invasion from France.

The Druids' temple then landed in the 43-acre estate in Henley-on-Thames that Corden and his wife bought in December for £8.5 million.Thought to have previously formed a shrine or burial chamber, the monument is made up of several covered passages and a chamber, that was created by a prehistoric civilization on the island.

Although the Gavin & Stacey star spends the majority of his time in Los Angeles where he shares a home with his wife and three children, the family also snapped up the UK property last year. The sprawling property boasts five-bedrooms as well as an indoor pool and two changing rooms.

The house, which had originally been on the market since 2017, also offers an outdoor tennis court as well as a gated lodge as well as several A-list neighbours.James' UK home is said to be close to several other celebrity properties including George Clooney, and Orlando Bloom. headtopics.com
