The fiancé of the slain journalist is seeking to hold Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and other Saudi officials liable for his death.

in a U.S. federal court Tuesday morning seeking to hold Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and other top officials liable for his grisly death.Cengiz filed the lawsuit with the U.S. District Court in Washington D.C.

Cengiz said she was waiting outside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, for over 12 hours while Khashoggi, picking up documents needed for their planned marriage, was ambushed and murdered, and has since “suffered loss of love, companionship, moral support & affection that she previously enjoyed.”

The complaint writes that the Crown Prince’s motivations for killing Khashoggi, an outspoken critic of his administration, are “clear,” and that defendants saw Khashoggi’s actions in the United States as an “existential threat.” Cengiz and Khashoggi’s employer, Democracy for the Arab World Now , said they filed the lawsuit in the United States because it’s the “sole venue where such accountability and redress can effectively be obtained.”“I am hopeful that we can achieve truth and justice for Jamal through this lawsuit,” said Cengiz in a separate statement. “Jamal believed anything was possible in America and I place my trust in the American civil justice system to obtain a measure of justice and accountability.
