Jacksonville City Council holds workshop on Stadium of the Future proposal

– The Jacksonville City Council is holding the first of two workshops Wednesday to discuss the multi-million dollar deal to renovate the Jaguars ’ stadium.Councilman Rory Diamond, who has been critical of the deal, will also speak at a separate meeting.The city has already held a series of community huddles along with the Jagurs to collect input on the project. Wednesday morning’s city council workshop will take a deeper dive into some of the finer details.

That’s where the city would get its money back if the Jaguars move within 14 years of the proposed upgrades. The council also plans to review the lease agreement between the Jags and city, how the stadium would be managed and naming rights Beaches Watch is also holding a Town Hall at 7 p.m. Wednesday that will cover a number of topics, including the stadium deal, and Diamond is scheduled to speak.

He says he opposes part of the deal that would have the Jags and city each spend $150 million on community benefits to address things like parks, affordable housing, and homelessness.“The poll was total garbage because it didn’t ask the honest questions,” he said. “Have I asked you, ‘Hey, I’ll give you $100 million for free from the Jaguars or I’ll give you $150 million.
