'We all know this is retaliation. There’s no way around it. I took a huge stand, put my career on the line and I don’t regret it,' Smalls tells ABC News. 'I don’t know how they even sleep at night for doing that.'

at one of the company's busiest fulfillment centers, he says he was fired over the phone.

Smalls said he plans to take legal action against the company, calling his dismissal a"wrongful termination." Christian Smalls holds a sign at an Amazon distribution center during the outbreak of the coronavirus disease, in the Staten Island borough of New York, March 30, 2020.New York Attorney General Latitia James said she is calling on the National Labor Relations Board to investigate Smalls' dismissal.

Smalls, who had worked for Amazon for five years, organized a worker walkout and protest outside the Staten Island facility, where he claims multiple employees have tested positive for the virus, which as of Tuesday morning had killed more than 900 people in New York City.Smalls told ABC News that while he was sent home on quarantine on Saturday, he has exhibited no symptoms of the virus.

Employee should be able to speak up when affecting their health and should not be fired for retaliation that's just being honest.

Will this case be another example of senior executives not listening to HR? Or will it be a case of hiring inexperienced HR leaders?

TheView What did he expect from Corporate America, you fall in line or you are fired, that’s the way it is and the reason they sent the jobs overseas to get rid of the Unions

SHOULD HAVE KEPT HIS IDENTITY SECRET

Boycott Amazon people! 🙄

TheView And shame on Amazon for not cleaning after each shift. My husband works for a major grocery food chain and the janitors have been sanitizing everything on regular basis in the warehouse.

TheView Shame on him for going there and starting trouble when he should have been home taking care of himself and not spreading the virus. They were going to pay him while he was in quarantine.

medit8now Not a good look amazon_policy.

TheView Bezos probably had an excellent phone call with trump and payed his lobbyists more money to get it done.Private sectors are just a rich ‘cult’ behind red tap of politics. How rich you want to be. Fucking pathetic!! The supervisor who fired should be fired!! Where the EO guideline

TheView TaxTheRich 🔥😷🔥✊🏿✊🏼✊🏾

TheView I hope you were not naïve enough to think there would not be consequences for your actions. There is a cost attached to 'speaking truth to power'.

They are doing that to doctors now. Because they are speaking Truth. A Truth that trumpanzie delusional CEO doesn't want to get out.

RichardLBond1 In November we will remember. There will be a complete change of the political landscape at that time and Fox News will lose its license for broadcasting so well deserved! WEVOTE

If true, only way to make Amazon act responsibly is for people to stand up and STOP buying from Amazon.

Bezos is as bad as trump! Die die die everybody... he needs his money...

TheView WOW....!!! PeopleBeforeProfit shameonyouamazon The people made you and that $$Jeff Bezos...or whatever.

Sue them.

Is having the virus or not having it going to impact ability to work and be insured? Has CDC had any studies regarding the ability of a person to continue to spread the illness after testing negative then testing positive at a later date?

Jeff Bezos is a deplorable human being that profits from disasters.

Please read the article people. He was asked to stay home for 14 days WITH pay due to exposure with someone positive for Covid. Instead, he organized a rally and put these people in risk of infection.

TheView Shame on you amazon JeffBezos .... without your employees you are nothing! And to not take proper precautions ensure their safety as heath at this time is disgusting..... give them gloves and mask!!!

TheView This is America. Being fired without cause is perfectly legal in most states. Vote for a change.

TheView Stop - Nurses on the front line are not getting paid any more than their normal pay and most don't expect more. So stop being so selfish expecting more, just be thankful you have a job.

Somebody tell this dude that he's not as important as he thinks he is. He's very expendable.

eeeee

Maybe ABC will hire him. Sounds like your kinda guy

The new 'Norma Rae' Movie out in Summer of 2021. onestandard4all

TheView This is why I’ll never shop on Amazon. JeffBezos is a greedy MF!

I wouldn't want my employees protesting either, best of luck to him but its Amazon's right to terminate his employment at will

A free country is not for the people

It’s also not fair that Amazon refuses to close the FC that have tested COVIDー19 positive!

How does Besoz sleep at night? Likely pretty well.

I’m no rocket surgeon, but firing the guy who organized the protest is probably a bad idea.

fake news

I’m so glad this is making the news!!!! Amazon needs to be exposed for how they treat their workers after they’ve done something that is meaningful!!! They have been gettting away with this type of shit since the beginning of time. ExposeAmazon

I'm sure the Washington post will be all over this

Looks to me like the ex employee won't have a legal case and the AG, who usually I like, overstepped her bounds in this situation and said things without having all the evidence first. If the person was warned repeatedly and there is a paper trail he was justifiably fired.

Maybe next time you could do this after you’re done with the 14 day stay home because you were in contact with someone who had the virus.

It's just not fair. I attempted to curtail and shut down the business that was paying everyone's bills and they fired me. I think they should have spoken to me about my concerns before doing something so drastic.

Jeff Bezos accumulates endless wealth while his workers have terrible conditions. Amazon has way too much power. BoycottAmazon

He knew he was exposed to thr Coronavirus & refused to follow the quarantine guidelines putting others at risk

Pretty sure in the small print of your new hire paperwork you signed somewhere saying wouldn’t participate in union walkouts

Lots of people need a job right now. Probably not too smart on his part

More too the story.
