“They said, ‘We can’t eat him. It is against the rules,’” recounted Patti Christensen, 62, of Oceanside, to a crowd of about 50 people Saturday at the Coronado Public Library.The Indian folktale, with a few modern elements thrown in, was one of many stories told for the annual World Storytelling Day event. What started in Sweden in 1991 as a national storytelling day, it has now spread with groups throwing events across hundreds of nations.
This year’s theme was “Lost and Found,” but the event was not strict on the type of story people wanted to tell — it can be real, fake or somewhere in between. Hours of terror went by until the first glimpse of sunlight finally rose over the horizon. The fear didn’t end as he started seeing flashes of orange light in the cockpit.
