Four days in, flu symptoms, feel feverish but the thermometer says I'm fine. No cough no respiratory distress. If I sprinkle sugar and salt on the table and taste it with my finger, I can't taste either. I can smell very strong smells, like chlorine in a bottle.

Yeah, but ... I noticed back in high school that I’d lose taste (related to smell) when I’d get a cold. That’s why I’d crave spicy Mexican food. So it may happen with COVID-19, it’s certainly not a symptom that’s *exclusive* to it.

YES! This was my husband’s early sign 3 days before anything else! He was on his way to work when I read about this as a symptom and I texted him and was able to stop him before he went into work. That same night he got a fever and 2 days later, a positive test.
My wife confirmed positive. I'm presumptive positive. Both of us COMPLETELY lost taste/smell. After 17 days, I'd say I'm about back to 50%. No congestion. Clear breath. 0.0% smell. Weirdest symptom.

How can there be scientific evidence of something new? The Patients are saying that they have no smell or taste. That's your evidence. Sheesh!
Loss of smell and taste can result from congestion and not being able to breathe properly.
