There are over 673 million users on LinkedIn, but people only use it just 17 minutes a month, versus 35 minutes a day for Facebook

THERE ARE over 673 million users on LinkedIn, but “most people have an account because they’ve been told they should or need to have one—then they never use it or update it,” said Andrew Selepak, Ph.D., director of the graduate program in social media at University of Florida.

In recent years, LinkedIn has become a target of frustration in the social-media stratosphere: It’s not fun or user-friendly, it’s a bit ugly, and the site has become bogged down with spam connection requests and users’ attempts to market products...

An interesting stat! Is it because you are not connected to your friends on LinkedIn and you are less emotional attached to content on LinkedIn

Long ago I expected the social media companies to fizzle. Do ad BUYERS get return? Have you ever bought something via online impulse. A car, tv? Amazon I understand. The others, I STILL 'dont get' their their biz plan. If watch FB 24/7, they know you, sell your data... And..?

I cancelled LinkedIn several years ago when found LinkedIn had launched in China.

In my industry, if you're not on LinkedIn, you don't exist. As a hiring manager, I look for your profile before granting an interview. The vast majority of them, and most likely yours, are terrible -- no interview, no job.

You're keeping tabs?

Too corporate plus not user friendly.

This is a stupid post, it’s like comparing E*TRADE app with Twitter.

LinkedIn is ripe for substitutions

Some on the site aren't completely truthful. Hiring managers should do background checks on job applicants.

Linked in is a modern Rolodex. It’s not the same thing as Facebook.

raju Here's a thing. It's not as good as that other, bigger, different thing. Should you use it?

I think it would be a bit silly to to say “people only check their LinkedIn when they are looking for a job while they check FB 24/7, therefore it is a failure”. LinkedIn has a specific function. Of course people aren’t checking it all day long

Unless they’re introducing fight videos & bikini girls .. LinkedIn should just be happy with what hey have

It is boring and many people use it like Instagram but instead of showing skin they show their stupid courses and certifications, so it is boring. Full of egos too.

Not, just accidentally waste of time

I use it more than FB for sure, it has a purpose, I about business and research. Nothing more

Cuz it feels like work, it's full of fucking front row kids and overachievers.

For businessmen like myself it is an indispensable tool. I use it for hours every week.

Linkedin is as useless as Facebook - Twitter rulz

Yes

I think people say end too much on Facebook...LinkedIn seems about right

Linkedin is not really an actively used social media platform, its really more of a profile sharing site, where you can formally connect for business or job related formalities, not really the kind of platform most people would use for socialisng and interacting daily

The least fun of the social networks.

I actually spend more time on LinkedIn.

Waste of time

If there was a war and I was a doctor with experience in gunshot wounds, I wouldn't get a job at Linkedin.

zaccheusx

I want a job. Few miliards of (non) workers too. We found there everthing but not job to apply. p.s.: 4 months active and nothing yet. p.p.s.: no experiences. Focus in studying till last year.

Cause it is terrible. It is the lead system for sales people, so why use it? You’re just getting “cold called” on it.

People could use LinkedIn all day lone when they need a new job

Facebook if for general people actually

Simply because LinkedIn is for serious business, strictly professional while Facebook is peripheral and very soft.

In 10 years it will be a memory.

Total waste of time. The self congratulatory BS on there is hilarious. 'I’m pleased to announce I was invited to participate in the steering committee for the planning committee” 🙄 no one cares.

I haven't opened my LinkedIn app in 3 months because I just don't see the point. It feels like an echo chamber and it's more vacuous than Facebook.

Yawp

Yes.

Not if you are an over 40 male boss, or under 30 undergrad recruitment or Estate agent looking for a sugar daddy... If you want real prospects, you are better off on Instagram.... Lol!

Yes. It is.

yes

Because LinkedIn totally sucks - I stopped using it all together - the daily emails that you had a new message that was always one of their promotional ones - total waste of my time!

LinkedIn has the feel of Google +.

You have more chances to be hired in any other social media than in LinkedIn I think.

Not sure it’s a complete waste of time . After all, it’s the place to go if you like being annoyed by long-winded tales of persevering through adversity by middle-management

Yes it is

Sounds like Facebook is the waste of time.

Maybe that's actually a more healthy level of social media usage.

It has a very narrow use: if you’re not trying to work on a white-collar career, what else would you use it for? I don’t know anyone who isn’t working in an office setting who uses it.

I call it the purgatory of the internet.

Pois é.... Aí não dá né!

The constant invites I get to a platform I will never use certainly are a waste of time.

Not even that much for most of us

Never confuse activity with accomplishment. Never. FB is a sad waste of time.
