The following contains spoilers for Invincible Season 2 Episode 6, "It's Not That Simple," now streaming on Prime Video
Invincible draws attention to how this is related to Immortal's unnatural life span, an unfortunate element of his impossibly long life. Immortal is seemingly doomed to outlast all the people he loves, even those with powers who can empathize with his plight. This is further complicated by the power he took his name from, a burden that he shares with characters like Omni-Man and Invincible.
All of this highlights how the Immortal has become isolated after centuries with his powers. This is reminiscent of Omni-Man's prediction to Mark during the climactic fight in season 1. Towards the end of the fight, Omni-Man tries to explain to his son that due to their lengthy lifespan compared to humans, Mark will easily outlive all of his loved ones.
It all underscores the fact that Mark is going to have to make sacrifices due to the circumstances of his powers and his superhero identity. Having to be alone might be one of them, as normal people like Amber will pass long before Mark has even grown old by the standards of Viltrumites. Omni-Man's point was meant to break Mark's spirit. The overwhelming grief felt by Immortal proves that Omni-Man wasn't completely wrong, and it does impact heroes.
