Heaviest snow will fall near Portage and Whittier, where over 6 inches can be expectedPublished: Apr. 9, 2024 at 8:27 AM AKDTANCHORAGE, Alaska - Light snow is already spreading across Southcentral this morning, ending the sunny weather we saw yesterday.
Some locations Tuesday across Southcentral will be likely treated to another round of sunshine. The northern Susitna Valley, parts of the Matanuska Valley and into the Copper River Basin will likely deal with mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions. This means that the extreme northern edge of the snow will likely make it into Anchorage and southern parts of the valley.
As the snow lightens in the evening, expect a short-lived return to clearer skies into Wednesday. This will pave the way for more sunshine and highs near 40 in Anchorage in the middle of the week. Elsewhere across the state, numerous winter weather alerts have been issued for Western Alaska, with some wind products being issued for areas further east into the Interior. This is in advance of the next weather maker for the state, which looks to drop up to a foot in some parts of the state.
