That was as close as the A’s would get, however, as their inexperienced bullpen failed to keep a revamped Phillies offense in check in the late innings.

He was replaced in the sixth inning after throwing 92 pitches, allowing six hits and striking out six. “It was refreshing to see,” Pinder said of Oakland’s late-inning offense. “It’s in our makeup, trying not to give away any at-bats and just keep fighting.”
