For an international football player, it’s so tight that a big man’s feet hang over the edges.
The Vikings develop most of their players to someday join Vienna’s parent club, a powerhouse that has won the EuroBowl five times and recently joined the European League of Football. When players like Raimann turn 18, they join the top team, sometimes playing with men old enough to be their fathers.“I personally thought he would be an prospect when he was 16,” Calaycay said. “He was just different.”And he wanted it. Badly.

The family’s son, Tyden, was an offensive lineman at Delton-Kellogg, already being recruited by the Chippewas.“They were just like brothers,” Bates said. “They beat on each other like no other.” Bates, like Calaycay and Koessler before him, also realized quickly that Raimann had an insatiable work ethic. Delton-Kellogg held two-a-days in training camp, then five hours of team meetings, and by the time Bates released the players, almost everybody was dragging, including the coaches.As small as Delton-Kellogg was, Raimann landed in a perfect situation, in large part because of his host family.
The transformation that followed was remarkable. Raimann tries to downplay it, tries to hand all the credit to former Central Michigan offensive line coach Mike Cummings and strength coach Joel Welsh.For months, Raimann worked on tackle technique, either on his own or with a few teammates, then sent the videos to Cummings, who’d then respond with a text or a video cleaning up the technique.
“Physically, he’s got a lot of tools. Really good feet for a guy his size. He’s strong,” Strausser said. “He played offensive line for only a couple of years after moving from tight end, and it doesn’t show up on film at all. He looks like an experienced offensive lineman. And then the knee bend. … He’s just a very, very natural knee bender. Maybe as good as any offensive lineman in the draft.”Raimann bending his knees smoothly, effortlessly, like an enormous gymnast.
