The premium cable outlet announced Wednesday that the show's fifth season will be its last one. The series, co-created by and starring, is coming off a fourth season that earned nine Emmy nominations, including its first nod for best comedy.
"Issa has turned insecurity into an iconic form of comedy," said HBO Programming executive vp Amy Gravitt."The show is as incisive as it is heartfelt, and it has resonated strongly with its audience because of the deeply personal work that Issa, Prentice [Penny], Melina [Matsoukas], the cast and the writers have put into it.
Rae has a number of other projects set up at HBO. She's an executive producer of A Black Lady Sketch Show and the documentary Seen & Heard, about the history of Black representation on television. She's also developing a TV adaptation of the podcast
That's funny that you titled this like it was HBO's decision. Clearly, this was Issa's decision.
It’s run it’s course.
That's because her potential is so much bigger than Insecure. She can be a lead in mainstream. Her growth is enormous compared to what she started from. So proud of her.
