Food production drives more than a third of all greenhouse gas emissions, but swapping to insects and lab-grown meat could cut this by over 80 per cent

Swapping the conventional meat and dairy products that make up a typical European diet for insect meal and laboratory-grown produce could cut food-related greenhouse gases, as well as water and land use, by more than 80 per cent, a study suggests.

Food production has huge environmental impacts, resulting in more than a third of all greenhouse gas emissions. The clearance of land for farms is also a key driver of biodiversity loss, while some

newmacdonald Enough with the beef!

this is the same argument for electric cars and wind / solar tho. the truth is making these car batteries, panels, and horrible turbines that last less than 100 years will destroy life faster than GHG or FF's ever could. the sun is being blocked, the wind changes direction.

Lab grown meat seems to be a very good solution. Insects No.

The downside to switching from meat to insects is that you’ll be eating bugs. I mean if you make it taste good, I probably won’t care but eating bugs is still kinda gross

In pretty sure bugs defecate too. 10lbs of food is 10lbs of food. I'm not eating bugs.

No.

People will literally eat bugs before they consider going vegan 😑

A reduction in population by 80% will have the same results

Soylent Green surely

we won't eat the bugs

Cows eat and pigs eat rotting food that would have given off gas anyways. Enjoy your meat and enjoy your life and don't listen to these wack jobs

I’m already acclimatised to eating anything in the shape of sausage or burger. Bring it on.

As does the building industry.

You will eat insects and you'll be happy.

I’d rather go vegan

Gross. Can't they make burgers from pulses?

Valek_Noraj

Or just veggies I have heard...

So could a lower human population 🙄. overpopulation goVegan

We could also just carbon tax companies and watch those greenhouse gas emissions drop faster then you can say 'it will cost us money?'

Insects as food in the popular debate will only put people off & ignore...it's far easier to eat sustainably & most will remain unwilling to change if that is the change people ask for Keep the insects for pet food & who has been proposing policy for veg/ins pet food as of 2022?

People need to reduce their bulimia nervosa!

we'd have to start with disney and make cartoons with insect food for this to ever make it to the streets and be acceptable in any order of meaningful magnitude.

You crack on.

Tough. Find another way.

No.

People over 80 with ‘overweight’ BMI may have lower mortality ratesA body mass index over 25 is normally considered unhealthy, but a study of more than 27,000 people in China suggests that may not be the case for older age groups Makes sense. They have the body fat necessary to sustain themselves it they catch a bad flu or other sickness. A skinnier person at 80 would waste away. A larger person has the calories to spare if they're bedridden and can't eat. Reassurance for us oldies then. Haven't reached 80 yet though! 'Even those with a BMI in the “obese” range, between 30 and 35, had a lower mortality rate than those in the 20 to 25 range.' Wow, that means I gonna live long enough to see & feel the wrath of northern and southern pole g̶l̶a̶c̶i̶e̶r̶s̶ deserts (chilling climate change vibes).

We can now tell how much CO2 in the air is due to fossil fuel burningA way of distinguishing between natural carbon dioxide emissions and those from burning fossil fuels could help cities and countries monitor their progress in cutting emissions nice Potentially misleading headline, especially for intentional distractors. How about: „Additional, faster way of measuring amount of CO2 caused by fossil fuel burning discovered.“ Fun.
