ST. LOUIS -- Detainees broke windows, set a fire and threw chairs and other items out of a third-floor window during the second significant uprising in two months at a downtown St. Louis jail, leaving city leaders again searching for answers.
“This is a very concerning and dangerous situation, of course, not only for the detainees but all of our personnel who work here," Mayor Lyda Krewson said at a news conference. Around 10:15 p.m., sheriff's deputies in riot gear appeared. Firefighters used a hose to douse flames. The inmates moved away from the broken windows by about 10:30 p.m.
pandemic. Supporters of the inmates also have complained about what they perceive as lax COVID-19 protocols inside the jail, and about other conditions inside the jail. The same concerns were at the heart of the February uprising, which involved more than 100 detainees and sent a corrections officer to the hospital."We weren’t mistreating them. It wasn’t cold. They were fed. They had clothes. They were being treated for COVID,” he said.
Some detainees may be moved to a second jail, known as the “workhouse.” That jail has been under scrutiny for years amid complaints about unsanitary conditions.
their victims aren’t they?
Let them burn. They are purposefully destroying property, they need to pay for breaking law and burning building, let them burn with building.
katalin_pota Because they’re being denied due process/speedy trial. Report that
IDIOTS..BURN EVERYTHING AND HAVE TO SLEEP ON THE FLOOR...ALL BECAUSE THERE WONT BE HAPPY MEALS FOR LUNCH.
Not being treated well.
You need to put why they’re doing this and hanging a HELP sign out the window in your title for this....
Criminals acting as such.
Wow.. which state in uganda is this..
Lotta Baylor fans in St. Louis. Cool
Damn, prisoners out of control means lack of staff. Are there budget issues in the State?
Not a very secure prison, is it? Inmates have access to a regular window? Strange, that they didn't take their chances and would climb out right away - as you see in movies, escaping with a rope. 😆😆😆
😲60 inmates broke out! I bet backup was needed!
Maybe Missouri needs to look at Missouri.
Never learn
Pretty fancy looking jail...maybe that’s part of the problem today...going to jail is like a vacation for some people...no wonder we have such a high deficit...we evidently spend a lot on criminals...doesn’t anyone see a problem with this....
Since when did jails have glass windows?
Well, maybe treat them like the HUMANS they are and this wouldn't happen....
A 'riot' when they're crying out for help. Ok.
The first time this happened I was confused. But now I’m really confused. What sort of jail is holding its prisoners in a tower of glass windows? Maybe they.... shouldn’t?
The problem is that it does not look like a jail!
what constitutes a fair and speedy trial ? what constitutes mayhem ? where is the POTUS on all these things ? Is buying votes through corporate and citizen $ giveaways all he and the Democrats are doing to gain success in there eyes ?
JoeBiden ‘s America 🇺🇸 yay
Can we go somewhere today?
Bring back chain gangs & manual labor and these punks will be too tired for this nonsense.
