Taylour Paige stars as Zola, who meets Stefani while serving her at a restaurant. They connect immediately, both of them young women who dance at strip clubs for the extra money. Seeing an opportunity, Stefani invites Zola on a trip down South, where she promises they can make thousands of dollars for a few hours at one club. The journey is actually a dangerous ruse for Stefani’s pimp to cash in on the two of them.
Told largely from Zola’s perspective , the film, financed and distributed by A24, opens June 30. It’s a tale of misplaced trust and ingenuity, a carefully crafted embodiment of the Twitter thread that famously began: “Y’all wanna hear a story about why me & this bitch here fell out???????? It’s kind of long but full of suspense[.]”spoke with Bravo, Harris, Paige and Keough about bringing Zola’s story to life and the experience of shooting in Florida.
