In Texas, anti-abortion rights groups celebrate 'what we have always prayed for.'

SAN ANTONIO — Outside the Alamo Women’s Reproductive Services clinic Thursday, Teresa Cathcart joined a small group of anti-abortion rights activists, just as she does twice a week, every week. But this time, it was different: She had the backing of Texas’ new highly restrictive anti-abortion law as she urged patients to reconsider entering the clinic.

Teresa Cathcart, 55, who drives an hour from Spring Branch twice a week to speak to women entering Alamo Women's Reproductive Services.Texas’ new law, known as Senate Bill 8, went into effect at midnight Wednesday after a divided Supreme Court. It bans abortions once fetal cardiac activity can be detected, which is as early as six weeks into a pregnancy — before many women are even aware that they are pregnant.

“For us, it is what we have always prayed for. But abortion is still legal, and we will be out on the sidewalk until abortion is not,” she said. John Seago, the legislative director of Texas Right to Life, the state’s largest anti-abortion rights organization, said that was “overblown rhetoric” Thursday.

The highly restrictive law makes abortions nearly impossible to obtain in Texas. The average one-way driving distance for pregnant women will go from 12 miles to 248 miles, according to theA person enters Alamo Women's Reproductive Services, an abortion clinic in San Antonio, on Sept. 2, 2021.Dr. Alan Braid, owner of Alamo Women’s, said Thursday that he feared for the future of patients across Texas.

S.B. 8 is the latest way that Texas has whittled away at abortion clinics’ ability to practice over the years. Past data have shown that access to abortions has beenfar more than for any other group by the restrictions that have been implemented.

Now the BOUNTY HUNTING of women begin in TEXAS ! Like China & Russia family hunt family neighbor hunts neighbor nurse hunts doctors for $10 Grand !!!

Every woman of America should stage a complete walkout of their jobs, homes, and husbands AbortionIsAWomansRight

Such evil! How can a vigilante law like this be legal?

Why doesn't the state government start offering incentives to NOT have childten, incentives to get 'FIXED', when medically necessary then abort to save life! There's the violent acts but never a good way to deal with that! Earth getting OVER POPULATED! Low food and water!

MeetThePress Texas law is a road map to becoming the same abuse they do in Afganistán, not far from stoning woman. I’m pro life I’m not pro dictatorship, incest, rape, please. Living in backwards times!

Sons of bitches

Men should not control what women choose to do with their bodies.

So, did they outlaw condoms too?

Nationally, these people represent about 20% of the population.

This is not a game. Do you guys really care for human lives? Then, stop being racist and weird.

It is abhorrent to force a woman to go through a pregnancy against her will. Access to safe abortion is health care. This is not the 1800’s. Women are sentient beings who can make their own decisions. Every woman of childbearing age ought get the hell out of Texas. Stat!

Amen. It's an abomination to shed innocent blood - Proverbs 6:16-19

Says the white man in the picture. 🤦🏼‍♀️ stayoutofmyuterus

They better pray their daughters don't get pregnant

These laws don't bother me, their children are the ones needing the abortions anyways. These laws always come fo bite them in the butt; besides, there are OTC abortion pills all over the place.

Why is there no reward for denouncing a man that impregnated a woman whiteout her consent ?

These are the same people that are against social safety nets and scream 'pull yourself up by your boot straps' when a single mother with 2 jobs needs help.

Universal PreNatal Care, Universal Pediatric Care, Free Rx for children, quality housing, education, food?

And if one of their loved ones were impregnated by rape or incest would they still be celebrating? If they died or were severely injured from a back alley abortion would they still look at this ruling as a win?

Muon tim1nguoi dan Ong de ket hon

Change the name to a non 'Civilised' country and they might be risking a sanction or an invasion to liberate their women.

Congrats to the GOP Texas Taliban!

I think all the women who get raped and can't get an abortion should take all their babies to these anti abortionists and they can take care of them.

Stupid people passing stupid legislation and laws…to what purpose…staying in power or God says it wrong or being a good Christian there is a separation of church and state so many voters are uninformed have no idea what they voting for

Abortion is between a woman her doctor and God, nobody else.

Looks like he should be praying for a gym membership.

Overturning Roe Vs. Wade is the wettest dream for Dominionists because they absolutely believe they must outlaw all abortion rights (including birth control), & homosexuality first before they can forcibly impose their totalitarian theocracy on us all

Jesus said 'My kingdom is not of this world.' If you've been praying to bring about His kingdom in this world by having civil government enforce his teachings, you should ask yourself who's been tempting you.

Then they’ll be taking care of all those babies, right?

Ok Tex-ass, now come through with the money to care for these babies! Don’t desert them at birth

If you are a republican you have been suckered, if you are a democrat you have been suckered. This is simply nobody's business. Mind it.

Why don't people mind their own ******* business! Abortion affects no one but the person having the procedure. How about focusing on your own pathetic lives and stop interfering in a woman's constitutional right to an abortion. WTF are we back in the 1600s AbortionIsHealthcare

The guy standing with the sign looks well, he is about ready to have his baby, So happy men can be the “host body” too.

Every blue state should write laws allowing anyone to sue any state resident for not getting vaccinated.

Such thing as a retroactive abortion?

And right on cue, races to promote GOP Terrorism. Why don't you talk to the women who are being waged war on, ? Nobody gives a shit what the extremists are saying.

Shouldn't fathers have rights to keep baby? After all it's part if him to? Anyway god bless Texas

Anti-abortion men need to sit down, shut up and mind their own business.

The Taliban just like Repubs use religion to destroy women's rights and kill people.😠😠

Prayed for to a god that killed every first born male CHILD in an entire country to prove a point 😑

The american Taliban calling the tune in texas.

All men in that group need to get vasectomies . If they can try to control my body I will try to control theirs.

Medication being pushed by Texas and Florida to fake Covid comes from fetal stem cells

There are always a few women but the vast majority of the cruel 'Christians' are Men. Men ho have nothing to worry about with the exception of Child Support if they face an unwanted pregnancy.

How hard is to get into a no-pregnancy plan or habits, if your guy can afford a comdom, well he is just a loser, find someone who ca afford at list a comdom.

Radical Christianity is a problem that needs to be addressed, quickly.

Opinion | Here's how women in Texas can have safe abortions — legal or notThanks to medication abortion, people in Texas and elsewhere can have safe, self-managed abortions at home — legal or not. THINK I wish this was correct, but TX is about to ban this also!! THINK Texas is not so great when a virus has more right to reproduce than a woman... as a native Texan I feel ashamed and I was no part of the plebiscite who made this ridiculous decision. THINK Hang tight. They'll change it again to something else.
