SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — A group of U.S.-based scientists is rushing to document indigenous sites along Puerto Rico’s coast dating back a couple of thousand years before rising sea levels linked to climate change destroy a large chunk of the island’s heritage that is still being discovered.
“It’s literally being washed away,” said Falko Kuester, director of the Cultural Heritage Engineering Initiative at the University of California, San Diego, which is involved in the project. “A big part of what we’re working on is to make the invisible visible and make sure it stays in our memory.” The first site scientists targeted was a large swath along the U.S. territory’s north coast that includes a ceremonial center used by the Taino Indians roughly 2,000 years ago, said Isabel Rivera Collazo, an environmental archaeologist at UCSD who is overseeing the project that began in August 2017.
Don’t worry. They can easily jet ski on over to New Venezuela and take in the cool new sites to be explored there.

The former first family has a new home on Martha's Vineyard. Former president Barack Obama and his wife, have reportedly purchased a home on the Massachusetts island for $11.75 million. Rising sea levels linked to climate change will sink it scientists say. why buy it then! 😂
What about Obama’s house? 🤣
Maybe save them? Document your work
🙄😀
Lol morons.
Was AOC part of the group of scientists?
Throw in some paper towels. It might help. 😘 MondayMotivation MondayThoughts MondayFeeling Resist
lol, and how much has the sea level in that area actually risen in the last 170 years? 5 inches?
Why bother? AOC told us we have less than 12 years before the world ends.
instead of studying what could be lost in the future how about studying how the loss can be avoided
Meanwhile, Puerto Rico still doesn't have power. 🙄
