Brooklyn-based designer Connor McKnight launched his unisex line during the pandemic with no real intention of creating a full-on brand. Having cut his teeth at labels such as Bode and Kith, McKnight simply found himself wanting to create things that were entirely of his own vision last year.
Now only in his second season, McKnight brought a full offering to New York Fashion Week earlier today, where the emerging talent proved he’s a master of paring things back and creating cool, well-cut, understated clothes for him and her. “I like to make things for people that I would wear myself, and I dress pretty simply, so I’m always thinking about things that are minimal with an extra detail,” he says.
Knits aside, all of the designer’s separates could be incorporated into a wide variety of wardrobes—like a downtown version of The Row—and be embraced by any gender. “I just generally think that clothes should be defined by who wears them,” says McKnight of his unisex focus. The elegant knee-length tunics were another highlight, as were his takes on the trench coat—which had strategic pleating on the back, to make it drape beautifully—and striped workwear pants.
