The two-time Grammy winner will perform in Fort Worth on Thursday.

Bobby Rush will perform at Tulips in Fort Worth on Thursday night. The 80-something singer won his first Grammy, for traditional blues album, in 2017, and he won another in the same category four years later. After more than 60 years of performing in the shadows of more famous musicians, Bobby Rush is finally getting his due.

But while Black audiences loved his gritty voice and ribald showmanship, Rush barely made a ripple in the mainstream. Growing up in Louisiana, your father was a Black preacher and your mom was a homemaker who was multiracial and often passed for white in public. Was her racial identity confusing to you as a child?

Bobby Rush has worked with many musical legends, including blues singers Muddy Waters and Freddie King. Still, I don’t have no chip on my shoulder. I don’t want people to read my book and feel sorry for me. I want them to know that if a little country boy like me can grow up and make it, they can make it, too. You’ve got to deal with the cards you were dealt.

He was a star in his own right. Johnnie had a big head. Didn’t want to talk to certain people. Didn’t want to sign autographs a lot of times. But he was always nice to me.Muddy Waters was a lot older than me, but we were close, and he gave me more advice than anyone. He lived fast. He smoked a lot and drank a lot, but he didn’t want me to fall into the pit. So he’d say “Blood, don’t do what I do.”

Houston-area malls and shops boost security amid increased theft during holiday rush: HPD dataThe holiday shopping is in full effect, but HPD warns shopping during this time of year comes with elevated risk. It makes more sense to help people financially so they don't have to turn to crime. Instead we will pay corrupt cops thousands upon thousands of extra dollars to 'protect Houston' during the holiday season. Yay. Capitalism will fall and there is nothing you can do to stop it. I provide my own security. I am always with my two friends Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson and 8 other lead friends.
