Improving religious literacy: Nazareth University hosts Global Citizenship Conference

Pittsford, N.Y. — More than 600 students came together Wednesday morning to learn how to lead the future.. Students from 30 local high schools are being given the tools to respond to intolerance, improve religious literacy and show etiquette in a world with multiple beliefs and backgrounds.

"The sessions are about interfaith and different religions. It's not about being religious," said Nusrat, a student worker at Nazareth. "Students need to understand interfaith to understand their community better. So, I think it's really important. Sometimes, students are stuck in their own little bubble. We try to separate them in the session so they can meet new people and communicate.

The annual conference was inspired by a conversation between a past Nazareth University dean and a high school principal about the need for interfaith dialogue among the next generation of workers.
