The delay comes after some residents raised concerns about the health, safety and possible contamination.

The borough of Fair Lawn posted an announcement about the highly-anticipated implosion on its website, saying a new date and time has not been scheduled.

Greek Development, which owns the property, did not immediately respond to a request to comment on the delay., ending a 60-year run at the iconic site. The building has been a major part of the borough’s identity since the Fair Lawn plant opened in 1958. The factory loomed over Route 208 and beyond with “NABISCO” written across the top in big red letters.Road closures, parking lot closures and detours will be in place on the day of the implosion, the borough said.

Implosion contractor Controlled Demolition Inc. said there is a New Jersey regulation that says no explosives can be set off if the impact would be exacerbated by certain meteorological conditions that create a “low ceiling,” such as fog or cloud cover, Fair Lawn officials said.
