Gelfond was upbeat about the future of moviegoing, forecasting that we’ll soon see the return of the global theatrical window tentpole in upcoming movies likeShang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings. “Every studio has a 45-day window next year,” Gelfond said, but noted that “lower cost releases will be put on streaming.” Meanwhile, Imax will continue to benefit from big studio tentpoles.
In regards to whether the delta variant is poised to impact the box office, Gelfond said “it’s too early to say” while observing how box office in China and Japan boomed under an unvaccinated population. “Among vaccinated people, there’s not a lot of reticence to go to theaters, there’s no indication of it.”
I’d return to theatres any day. Streaming is such a disposable experience.

Oh yeah, Disney canibalized Disney by putting the same movie on his own platform where they get all the money without splitting it with theatres. Makes total sense. Maybe the movie isnt very good and theres still a PANDEMIC going, did I blow your mind?
Did it hurt it no Disney plus? If it was succsesfull in there then they might just skip theaters all together
The reason why F9 did so much better than Black Widow was due to Asian opening a month before rest of the world (taking $260m+) and generated far more piracy than Black Widow
I did both: IMAX & Disney+ on opening day. As a MARVEL fan it was the least I could do.

THIS is just dumb! It isn't Cannibalization that hurts theaters, it is the uptick in Covid cases. I have asked multiple people in my network if they are going to movies. Almost all said no, due to fear of those who are unVaxed. How about an IMAX psa about vaccination?
IMAX and theater owners aren't concerned with anything but money.
I'm sure it had nothing to do with woke actors ruining the film for half the country.. Only one party is watching these movies...
