An illness linked to Covid-19 is likely more common in Black, Latino and Asian children

, looked at CDC data of 248 children with MIS-C to estimate rates in the broader population.

Four times as many Hispanic or Latino children and three times as many Asian or Pacific Islander children were estimated to have MIS-C compared to white children. Among all people under age 21, for every million cases of the virus causing Covid-19, 316 people have MIS-C, the study estimated, though children under age 10 are more susceptible.Researchers did not study why more children of color likely have MIS-C, but they recognized that unequal life conditions that influence health, “such as social, economic, and environmental conditions, ha[ve] been recognized as a contributor associated with persistent and pervasive health disparities.
