Santa, aka West Dundee resident Mike Buhrmann, will be a big part of Dickens in Dundee, holding court Friday night at West Dundee Village Hall and being the main attraction in the new Riverside Parade of Lights Saturday night as it passes through Carpentersville and East and West Dundee.
While the Anvil is new to Dickens, which takes place in the two towns’ downtowns on both sides of the Fox River, West Dundee resident Mike Buhrmann said, “My wife Ginny and I have been involved pretty much since the get-go.”One of the highlights of Dickens in Dundee are the actors who recreate scenes from Charles Dickens' novels in the windows of businesses in downtown East and West Dundee.
“My friend, Steve Francois from Sleepy Hollow, had been playing Santa, but had health issues. So he asked me to take over for him,” Burhmann said.“About six years ago, we took our grandchildren to see Steve as Santa at the Randhurst Mall,” he said. “While we were waiting, a man came up to me. He thought I was going to be the one playing Santa. When I told him no, he handed me his card and told me to give him a call because he might have work for me.
“With the pandemic, my daughter, Elizabeth or Elf Lizzie, and I making home front porch visits. I still do that , and have more than a dozen stops this year,” Buhrmann said. He’s also involved with the Dundee Township Lions Club, serving as its president and taking a big role in its Christmas tree sale in West Dundee’s Grafelman Park, where you’ll also find him playing Santa.
