Products have been sold at The Ice Cream House in Brooklyn and throughout retail supermarkets in New Jersey, New York and Ohio.
The recall covers all products manufactured and sold by The Ice Cream House, according to the announcement. The products should be thrown out or returned for a refund, the company said. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, according to the company. Even healthy individuals could experience a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, the company said.The Ice Cream House said it has halted production and distribution of the products while an investigation is ongoing.
