I Was a Real Life ‘Love Is Blind’ Experiment by MissMenopause

Recently a Netflix reality series started a hot debate by testing a hypothesis formulated from that age-old idiom, “Love is Blind.” Now mind you, I’ve been playing the dating game for decades and that’s why when online matching websites became all-pervasive, I didn’t hesitate to swim with the sharks in the “Plenty of Fish” pond, as well as all the other prominent cyber meeting arenas like Match and OKCupid. And let me just say that the very first thing people always look at is your photograph.

I was flooded with responses from nice men who thought this was a dandy way to approach love. As a bonus, this tactic totally filtered out all of those player/shallow types who just wanted a quick sexual hook-up. Because what would be the point of contacting me when I must be “coyote ugly” — although have you seen actual coyote pups? Adorable! But I digress…

Needless to say, it was thrilling anticipating the mystery of revealing our appearances at our first real life meeting — and after a short while, I could easily narrow down whom I felt drawn to enough to arrange that. Solely from the way they expressed themselves, I whittled fifteen hopefuls down to six remaining candidates, all of whom I perceived fantastic rapport with and we also became emotionally intimate by confiding highly personal aspects of our lives to one another.

First their oral presentation catapulted me into reality. An unusually soprano-pitched guy turned me off immediately the moment he said “Hi.” Ironically “high” was an understatement. Another fellow stammered, hemmed and hawed, unable to string together a coherent sentence if his life depended on it. A European accent caused one man to instantly seem sexier than he actually was.
