MyTwoCents: “When you’re used to spending money in certain ways, it’s difficult to move backward”

Photo: H. Armstrong Roberts/ClassicStock/Getty Images After three years of dealing with a toxic work environment, I finally got a new job. My new company seems like a great place, and the people there seem a lot happier than my former co-workers. I love my new boss too. The only downside is I had to take a pay cut of about $10,000 . I was so miserable at my old company that this didn’t seem like a big deal, but now I’m worried I’ve set myself back.

But first, you can stop doubting your decision to switch jobs. As you probably know, you’re in very good company, and there’s a reason for that. “The pandemic has caused us to slow down and think about what’s working and what’s not and how that aligns with what we ultimately want for ourselves,” says Dr. Shonna Waters, a certified leadership coach and vice-president at the career-coaching firm BetterUp.

I don’t recommend the approach of simply trying to spend less across the board — that will lead to a lot more stress and tight corners like the one you’re in now. Instead, start with a big-picture inventory of your cash flow. I would personally do this by taking a thorough look at what I’m already spending — say, going through everything I spent over the past month — and figuring out what I can change.

Amazon Cuts Paid Leave for Workers With Covid-19 to 40 HoursWorkers will only be eligible for one work week of paid leave, or up to 40 hours. Previously, the company offered 10 days. Almost like that was the CDC's intention all along .... No shit. I'm shocked. Wtf. I really need to stop buying crap from them. They are the richest company on the planet, there’s no reason why they can’t give their workers the best. Instead they keep cutting benefits to the bare minimum. Ugh.

Will the Omicron Wave Break Nursing?“Two years ago people were screaming for health care heroes through their windows and now it means nothing to be a nurse. I’m not sure what changed.' If the government doesn't protect the healthcare workers your community will suffer. You open schools without adequate mandates -vaccines/testing. What do you think will happen to covid?! This will increase hospitalizations and this will burden the health care workers. I know what you mean. My family & others love you all & we think that you all are our “HEROES!” Thank you very much for your service! cause the left basically threw them to the wayside if they refused to get vaxxed and sicked their minions on whoever opposed the narrative.
