I’m curious if people who have recently gotten a lease renewal offer would be willing to share their base rent and the proposed increase?
I’ve heard people say things like “my rent is going up 20%!” But 20% on a mid-pandemic deal and 20% on an apartment that was already close to market rate are two different things!”
Is there a legal amount of time before the end of your lease term that landlords have to notify you of rent increases if you renew? (In the same way that if tenants are not renewing we have to give 60 days notice)
Live in a one bedroom in admo. Rent was $1312 for the past 16 months now it’s going to be $1590 starting next month
It all depends on neighborhoods. My rent in a great building in SW went down 5%. Owner loves me and wants me to stay. Go to upper NW and rents drop. Navy Yard is prime real estate nowadays.
$2499 for a 2BR/2BA in an AdMo apt building and they wanted $100 more per month for renewal
Eckington: lease just renewed, rent went up 5%. Our previous contract said it could go up 10%. Still it feels unfair since nothing improved in the condo or building and we were unfairly charged a monthly pet fee the year before for a small cat. Also, no way to break the lease.
Paying $1907 in a one bedroom with a 'den' on H St. Offer at $2556. We had effectively been paying under $1700 with two months free. 34% increase... 55% on the effective rate. Disgusting
Navy Yard is doing the full increase. What’s more, my building increased parking during the covid rent freeze when it’s written as rent. DC tenant association read the lease and said they cant do that under the law but it would be more expensive to fight it.
I live in a studio in an amenity building in Shaw. If I had signed for another 12 months, it would have been a 1% increase but month to month would’ve been a $500/month increase! I’m staying in my building but moving to a 2 bed where I’ll pay about the same in rent (split though)
$1545 one bedroom in petworth, increase to $1641 (6.2% increase, the highest allowed by law)
I was paying $1,750 for a 1 bedroom in Bloomingdale. The landlord listed the place for sale so my girlfriend and I moved out. 2 months after listing it for sale she took it off the market and now it’s back for rent at $2,300.
