The backlash followed the broadcast of a TV documentary about the rise and fall of Spears, including how she was shamed in the media when their relationship ended in 2002. “I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed, ” Timberlake, 40, wrote on Instagram.

“I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism,” he said.

Justin Timberlake apologizes to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson: 'I failed'The former 'N SYNC star has come under fire for past sexist behavior after a new Britney Spears documentary premiered. It is the classic vague apology. Should have been specific, that is where we need to get to. Acknowledging the things we do to hurt people. Not, 'I hurt you, I'm sorry.' but 'I did this...and it hurt you, I'm sorry.' With all due respect its been 19 years... is he sorry or is he just sorry that we all are really seeing the truth behind what was done... I don't see this as an apology. Preemptive move ...... poboypod DrewMikePodcast
