By making relevant retcons to the storyline of I Am Legend, I Am Legend 2 can finally restore an important Darkseeker detail from the original book.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT 70 years after the release of the original I Am Legend book, I Am Legend 2 has the opportunity to bring a Darkseeker detail to the big screen after the first movie cut it out. Set in a harrowing post-apocalyptic New York City, I Am Legend walks through the adventures of the sole survivor, Dr.

For instance, the book, too, revolves around a sole survivor who finds himself at odds with humans-turned-monsters after a pandemic hits the world. However, unlike the book, which presents complex themes and ideas, the I Am Legend movie unfolds like a typical zombie action thriller. Even its depiction of the central Darkseekers significantly differs from the original novel's.

I Am Legend Book's 2 Darkseekers Explained In I Am Legend's original theatrical cut, the central monsters appeared to be infected zombie-esque creatures who went out hunting at night. While I Am Legend presented some details that highlighted how they could be vampires, it got caught in the zombie movie era of the mid-aughts, making it hard not to assume that its central monsters were zombies.

The seemingly "alive" vampires in Richard Matheson's original I Am Legend book are nearly indistinguishable from humans. Although they crave blood as much as the other dark seekers, they behave and act like they were infected in the first place. The main character in the I Am Legend book also mistakes one of these "alive" vampires for a human, only to later realize that she is a Darkseeker.

In the original Richard Matheson book, Neville is forced to question his perception of the Darkseekers once he starts realizing how he might be a monster for ruthlessly experimenting on them and killing them. By showing how the Darkseekers in the movie's universe are gradually evolving into human-like creatures, I Am Legend 2 could make Will Smith's Neville face similar moral dilemmas. Not to mention, this retcon would also allow I Am Legend 2 to introduce Michael B.
