Hyundai Will End Production of the Ioniq Next Month

Hyundai has announced it’s ending production next month of its Ioniq model (not to be confused with the new Ioniq 5 EV). Auto123 has the details.

We suspected it was coming and now Hyundai has confirmed it will stop producing its Ioniq model next month. The Ford Bronco has been in the news a lot since its debut last year, often for the right reasons, but sometimes not.Hyundai Elantra N , the last of which was developed in Europe but destined for the US.The latest report on the financial status of the Social Security system, released this week, is a silver lining in a very dark cloud.

The hatchback model, which has been a mainstay at Hyundai dealers for six years already, is not to be confused, of course, with the new Ioniq 5 EV, the first of several all-electric models to come under the Ioniq sub-brand.One of the things that stood out with the disappearing model was its multiple formats. Now add to that an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).The Hyundai Ioniq has been offered in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric configurations. The Hyundai group is also planning to double the size of its site at the Nürburgring, Johnson confirmed. The model served to introduce Hyundai customers to the all-electric car, and thus to the Ioniq name. The federal agency confirmed it has received three petitions requesting an investigation into the alleged problem. The EV variant dd have a flaw in that its range was only 200 km.So the “good news” contained in the latest report could end up being bad news in disguise.

That was one reason the Ioniq was quickly eclipsed by the Chevrolet Bolt and other vehicles that followed, some of which offered double the range.7L EcoBoost V6 engine suffer from a problem with the valvetrain that manifests itself as a loss of power at highway speeds.Hyundai's own Kona EV was one of them.Browse cars for sale available near you The company said European dealers stopped taking orders for the Ioniq in May 2022, although some dealers still have some units in stock. There is no specific mention of what the failed component is, however. Those interested in the model will have to move quickly here, that's a given. And as mentioned, this is just a transition for Hyundai, because after the Ioniq 5 crossover that's already on the road, the Ioniq 6 sedan is set to follow, and hot on its heels will come a full-size SUV, the Ioniq 7.In other words, the investigation is not a recall, it does not require Ford to issue a recall, and it does not confirm the existence of a problem with the V6.Beginning 2035, the report also concludes, recipients will receive just 80% of the amounts to which they are otherwise entitled unless changes are made to Social Security’s financing.

Social Security's actuarial report contains this bad news“We should all be urging our elected representatives from both parties to immediately start working together on the changes necessary to keep the Social Security Trust Funds solvent,” columnist MktwHulbert writes.
