“John meant so much to not only Orange Coast College, but to baseball,” the school's athletic director Jason Kehler said in a statement. “He truly personified what it means to be a baseball coach.” Altobelli led his team to four state championships during his career, and was named the National Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association in 2019.
Kehler said Altobelli, who people called"Coach Alto," treated his players like family and offered the school’s deepest condolences to the whole family. Altobelli's daughter, Alyssa, was best friends with Kobe's daughter, Gianna, Mauser said."Every time I'd see them they'd be laughing and talking." Tough to hear the news of coach Altobelli. One of my favorite coaches I have ever played for and one of the main reasons I got a chance to play professional baseball. Both the baseball and basketball world lost a great one today
