Hurricane forecast calls for nasty 2024 season with up to 25 named storms

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrationto a La Niña pattern later this year will likely enhance the number of tropical storms and hurricanes that form in the Atlantic hurricane basin. Reduced Atlantic trade winds and less wind shear are also factors that favor tropical storm formation, the NOAA said.The NOAA said Thursday there’s an 85% chance of an above-normal hurricane seas with a 10% chance of a near-normal season and just a 5% chance of below normal activity.

Based on averages during the 30-year stretch from 1990 to 2020, the “normal” Atlantic hurricane season produces 14 named storms and seven hurricanes, three of which turn into major hurricanes that cause the most destruction. These are the names that will be used when tropical storms or hurricanes form in the Atlantic hurricane basin in 2024.AccuWeather predicted 20 to 25 named storms, with eight to 12 becoming hurricanes and four to seven turning into major hurricanes classified as Category 3 or stronger.are also predicting an “extremely active” hurricane season, with 23 named storms, with 11 of those becoming hurricanes and five reaching major hurricane strength.
