Puerto Rico experienced heavy rainfall and flooding this past Sunday, wiping out the power grid and cutting off access to clean water for the island.

Hurricane Fiona made landfall in Puerto Rico five years after Hurricane Maria, which killed thousands of people and triggered one of the largest blackouts in U.S. history. The center of the storm is now near the northwest part of the island, but rain from Hurricane Fiona is still falling. This could have the potential to increase flooding and damage.

President Joe Biden declared an emergency in Puerto Rico, deploying the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate the disaster relief effort. Hurricane Fiona poured more rain on Puerto Rico on Monday, a day after the storm left most of the island without electricity and drinking water. , getting more than 20 inches of rain with other parts of the island having more than 25 inches.
