During an interview with the same outlet, director David Bruckner clarified that the upcoming Hulu film won’t be a remake of the original, but instead is a new story in the expanding“This is not a remake,” Bruckner said. “I just didn’t think you could ever remake the original. It’s too much its own thing and it would be, I think, perilous territory for filmmakers, because how do you top that? This is a new story in the Hellraiser universe.
“In the film, a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension,” reads the synopsis. The film is produced by Goyer, Barker, Marc Toberoff, and Chris Stone, with Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, and Todd Williams serving as executive producers. It is a production by Spyglass Media Group.
