Two years ago, Tom Szaky traveled from Trenton, New Jersey to Davos with a half-baked idea and a loose plan to pitch it to the leaders of the world’s biggest brands.
At Burning Man, the annual week-long event where participants build a temporary community in the Nevada desert, people inherently trust each other, he said. At Davos, he was able to approach any business leader and, because of a similar type of openness, be granted an audience.Szaky was at Davos in 2017 because TerraCycle had helped Procter & Gamble launch a line of Head & Shoulders shampoo that came in bottles made with plastic collected from beaches.
“I don’t have to rub this in their face,” Szaky said, because the companies are “painfully” aware of their reputations. As customers go through products — use all the shampoo, eat all the ice cream — they fill up the totes with the empties. Unlike traditional recyclables, the packages don’t need to be washed. At the end of the cycle, a UPS driver picks up the tote. Customers can keep repeating the cycle or opt out and recover their deposit. Even banged up packages earn back the deposit — customers only lose that money if they fail to make a return.
Szaky said TerraCycle asked the Loop partners to design packages that can survive at least 100 reuses. Rick Zultner, TerraCycle’s director of product and process development, is more measured; he called that figure a “nice goal to meet.”
Why not ask them about the 4000 employee they let go today for profit
I’d like to see a chain of shops where you take your containers and just keep refilling them each week.
Nestle is part of the reason why we have so much plastic in the environment. I'm glad they are starting a program like this but I kind of doubt their effort is going to make an impact unless they stop producing water bottles.
Like idea, but it shouldn't be a private company that does it only for the products they sell... should be in all stores & all products/brands. Also FUCK NESTLE and their theft of clean water to sell billions of plastic bottles for past 20 yrs!
Nestle is such a good company, I bet all the child labor on their cocoa plantations love the social resposabilty!
BeatPlasticPollution
Nestle Was hoping for something like this
What is Nestle doing about deforestation?
What’s old is new again. The old milkman and coke delivery model with returnable bottles is back. Smart innovative way to reduce plastics.
So the same litter laws in town can’t be enforced on the beach? Seems to me that would raise more money than renting umbrellas
Perfect idea
AS the as Sasha and zzzz a essence,z
K
so basically, what we had 50 years ago with coke bottles until the companies wanted to cut costs without being responsible for their environmental impact.
excelente para motivarnos mas un obsequio no estaría de mas , bien por Unilever
A little Coca-Cola left in a returnable can or bottle is one thing ... just wait for a hot car of cheese, cream or yogurt cups

Interesting! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
We need to consume less, and these steel jars aren’t environmentally friendly. The steel industry produces a lot of CO2.
Wow lefties are really unhinged.
This is very good.
People still arnt going to recycle know matter what people try to do so instead they should just make it to were the wrapper is edible then we won't have a problem
Just like a petroleum high-tech non pollution plant that can run all by itself, without bureaucracy, no waste was this kind of a plant they can last forever it would keep our gasoline at $0.99 a gallon cuz we can make millions of times volumes for pennies on the dollar
Yes please!
Or don’t make “deposable” plastic in the first place, Nestle. You are the problem. You should never have been allowed to keep you dirty money.
Right now in America we should take all of our waste milled it down in the cubes plastic make sure we don't make plastic dust and all the other waste we reduce it down and reuse it no more methane no more pollution we can also make power plants and burn the waste no pollution
Don’t give options...currently people can choose so why should they change. Force them to change!
To take plastic pollution, have the World Court mandate China, India, and Southeast Asia to quit dumping in the ocean.
That’s how I buy milk
I thought plastic was being recycled? Why is it ending up in our oceans?

Finally. The big boys know how they have contributed since commerce is a two-way street👍🏽
