Don’t be too worried about the risk of catching Covid-19 at the shore, scientists say—unless you’re in a crowded beachside bar

Worried about catching the new coronavirus at the beach this summer? Don’t be, scientists say—though it might be best to bring a cooler and skip the crowded beachfront bar.

With summer vacations in full swing after months of lockdown, public-health authorities from California and Florida to Spain and the South of France are reporting a pickup in cases of Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Photos of crowded beaches triggered envy for some, worry for others, starting soon after states such as Florida lifted Phase...

fillintheblnk I’ll tell you how to reduce the risk of Covid at the beach, because I live in a beach town: DON’T GO TO THE BEACH! 😷 Keep your ass at home until this shit is over! Then we will welcome you with open arms! But do it now and you are killing locals by stopping to eat, shop, drink.

We would run no risk at all if we were never born!

This is ridiculous. What thing we do has an absolute zero risk? We can just choke on food while eating or hit by an object from the sky while walking.

I have a better chance of being eaten alive hole by a shark 🦈 thank catching Covid at a beach.... you guys are pathetic. Is there a day where you guys put something informative out? Classic fear monger media!

Is there such thing as a zero risk in life?

Dang...I always thought we lived in a world with zero risk. 🤔🙄

The risk also isn’t zero from alien abductions at the beach.

Wait wait wait, but I was told by CNN...oh nevermind.

I go all the time. People aren’t on top of each other. It’s super easy to social distance and just set up your own little sanctuary.

But your probably more likely to get in a car crash on the way to the beach than actually catching the Virus on the beach.

No such thing as zero risk.

Getting hit by lightening while having a picnic is extremely unlikely ... but the risk isn’t zero. covidgonecrazy

America's outstanding freedom-loving culture may be missing a point. A market economy is good at producing and allocating goods. Covid is not a 'good' is a 'bad'.So freedom of choice may not be the best way to eradicate a 'bad'.Sorry, but let me quote a classic:'it is what it is'

The risk isn’t zero that you’ll be attacked by a shark, either.

stick your head in the sand

So florida caught all those cases because....

chicagosmayor open it up

There is zero risk in anything we do. This is getting ridiculous.

Neither is the risk getting sunburn 🙃

Go to the beach.

While other msm write articles bashing realDonaldTrump and promoting Biden & Harris, writes useful and practical articles like this. Good job.

'How to reduce coronavirus at a riot'

The risk of just about anything is greater than zero. Just go out and live your life!

The risk of walking out your front door has never been zero. Suck it up, buttercups.

Humans would go extinct without bacteria, parasites, & pathogens

The risk isn't zero that you could get infected by the flu or a cold at the beach either, but no one suggests arresting people for going to the beach because of it, nor mandating that they wear a mask nor keep at least 6 feet away from everyone else.

Neither is the risk of being eaten by a shark.

Can I see a list of infections at the beach? I would like to start with one.

The risk is never zero.

🇨🇷🇨🇷🇨🇷🇨🇷

Everything now is completely BS.

UMMM O.O6 IS ZERO. IT HAD TWO ZEROS.

Democrats believe otherwise

I mean the risk isn’t zero that when you go to the beach someone will stab you but... shouldn’t stop you.

Is that in spite of contravening the social distancing rules?

dude just fucking go to the beach

so who cares what the 'risk' is? we're not supposed to do normal things due to the fear of spreading the virus, yet thousands can protest together every night (with no social distancing precautions enforced) and that's okay? let's think logically here.

Not going to the beach

Hey , Biologist here, viruses hate UV light. Always been true. Corona viruses 🦠 No Exception. So, No French Kissing, sneezing directly into other’s faces, especially eyes w/o sun glasses, or sharing boogies or drinks on the beach. Otherwise, enjoy 🌞

Which is higher? My risk of stepping on a medical waste or getting Covid-19?

Fake news

The risk will never be zero anywhere.

Almost zero. Like 0.00001

How many have been hospitalized from beachside bar transmission?

The best way is staying at home, not anywhere crowded.

How about crossing a road? What is the risk percentage? 🤔

On a side note: Saw a seagull swallow a yellow PET bottle cap whole. Must have thought it was a chip. I tried to scare it off, but that chip was everything. It flew off and gobbled it down quickly. It's neck bulged. Please put your plastic rubbish in the bin, not the sand.

Without people then yes it is least likely. If people are packing there like bbq sardine then it suppose to be as dangerous as living in a city.

risk is zero.

If this was NYT or WaPo - I would believe it. But WSJ. No way.

Dont go..

99.6-99.74% Survival rate and rising Effect inexpensive treatments nothing is Zero risk Live Life

I think the problem kicks into gear when they go into a bar for a refreshment.

More likely to get hit by a car on the way there.

No, its 0000000.0000001% but your headlines have scared people past reality. You can tell by all the sheep, er I mean people, that still think beaches aren't safe

Is there anywhere in the world that is ZERO risk from sickness, injury, accident, and anything else?

Beaches are the safest, open air, social distant, fresh air, breeze. PERFECT

MelindaMWedding

But why to go on a beach if there is a risk

And yet morons keep closing them.

Life itself does not have zero risk.

Have never been to the beach

😮

Outdoors have low risk compared to indoors, best practices social distancing and wear mask

Or just don’t go. Beach ain’t going nowhere

How about just not go to the beach?

Boris Johnson says : ' Pile up the populations in URBAN AREAS to support land & rental speculation, trade & tourism of mass, intensive agriculture.. it's criminal. Eveything must be rethought : spatial & town planning-tax evasion-direct & economic democracy-social ecology '

美国的感染人数还不能说明covid的传播和感染力有多强吗?美国政府是可笑无知?还是可耻?

Unless the authorities open up public toilets there is a greater chance of getting dysentery than covid 19.

Ну да так это и работает)

Uh, a bar is sanitized regularly. The beach is not. Remember Rona lives on surfaces up to 3 days. I call BS. Sand harbors Athletes Foot, this can harbor Covid. Ànything public carries a risk. If you get it, quarantine work out pound vit c and crush it. I'm not scared.

Or the bathroom.

Do the words UV rays, ring a bell?

Stop writing articles like this! With school being out and online learning an option families are playing like it’s spring break and vacationing extra long in Florida! How is my state supposed to get healthy if everyone folks here? Plus there is no respect for the mask!

What’s the purpose of this kind of article? Is it trying to encourage people to all go to beach and eventually make beach crowded?🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

Today was a beautiful day at the beach

no they don't

Does everyone just wade out and unload in the ocean or what? Toilets anyone?

chicagosmayor who to believe... Wall st journal, normalizing beach time or the Mayor of Chicago, walking around stopping parties....

and lets not forget, unless its after midnight and especially after 2AM The Virus gets stronger after Midnight than it is at noon Make sure you get drunk and eat in the day! If you're allowed to work in the day, then you dont get to eat I guess

NYT 'New Zealand on Sunday marked 100 days without any new reported cases of local transmission of the coronavirus. Public life has resumed for many in the country, as they eat out at restaurants, socialize at bars, and attend sports and cultural events'. Effort pays.

zeynep

But wait. Wouldn't alcohol kill the virus?

I don’t go to bars .... anywhere. Guess I’m good.

Remember when fascist Lord Newsom shut down our beaches? I remember.

No one at the shore is worried. Duh.

chicagosmayor the beach isn’t the problem, the bars are...consider opening the beaches, please.

So we could’ve been outside living our lives this whole time? Including the parents arrested for taking their kids to the park?

Welcome to this powerful broadcast, let's listen to the word of God together Thank you so much

PPP Loans: Why Some Government Contractors Are Returning the MoneyGovernment contractors are among the many firms that are paying back coronavirus-relief loans—with interest—as they see resilient business and weigh the risks of running afoul of complex rules. Y? You mean the legitimate hard working companies and not the corrupt ones the nasty republicans played favorite to? Some orgs did this on purpose. They applied knowing they weren't eligable, or applied for more than eligable for, knowing they would later return the money. It was ised as low interest short term loan.

No parties, no trips: Colleges set COVID-19 rules for fallU.S. colleges are asking returning students to promise to help contain the coronavirus. Pls check this out even if u hate or like maths. It’s true that many students (most?) are likely to break any such promise. But they shouldn’t be in that position to begin with. The institutions are the authorities here, and their request is an abdication of responsibility. This is going to be impossible. A majority of college students find coronavirus to be a joke.
