1. You must know the real goal of your task or project.You need to clarify with whoever gave you this project, the real reason why they asked you to do it. If you know why you’re doing this project, then you can figure out how to prioritize and what to cut.
You will find that maybe you’re doing a project because someone has a goal such as to reach 80% migrations or to get load times under 200ms. You should also figure out who really cares about that goal — who’s responsible for that goal?Cut down the scope or reprioritize the project so that you deliver incrementally.Unnecessary work comes in two flavors: stuff people think you should do and stuff that you think would be cool.
Projects develop iteratively. You do a small piece, you look, and you reevaluate. What’s still necessary? If you ran an experiment and showed that whatever you were doing wouldn’t actually help with the ultimate goal then you can avoid a lot of unnecessary work .
