Body confidence is sometimes challenging, often empowering, and frequently at the forefront of our minds. As our Project Body Love campaign continues, we asked writer Ella Dove and her mother, Sara, to open up about how self-confidence changes with age, especially when life throws you devastating challenges.
Just as her career was taking off, Ella suffered a freak accident that led to her losing part of her right leg. The experience not only made her and Sara’s mother-daughter bond even stronger, but cast new light on the meaning of body confidence.Ella, tell us about the accident In May 2016, I was out for a run with my younger sister when I tripped over on the canal path near our home in East London, fracturing my right leg and dislocating my knee. Complications meant I had to have it amputated below the knee. The early days were a struggle. The complexity of my fracture meant it was four months before I could get a prosthetic leg, so initially I was in a wheelchair.
