Bringing back characters like Doc Ock and Sandman in SpiderManNoWayHome involved lots of CG and de-aging work

The VFX team was sensitive to what would be involved in “getting all these villains and heroes back together, all in one place … and to be true to the nuances of each character,” explains VFX supervisor Kelly Port, who led the work on the film’s 2,500 VFX shots, produced at multiple effects houses including Digital Domain, Framestore and Sony’s Imageworks. “We definitely wanted to keep a consistent look, so a lot of reference was made to those previous films.

He adds that Dafoe also involved some “very minimal” de-aging work. “We would take great pains to not lose any facial detail, the high-frequency facial detail, like pores,” he says. “When you do that, it starts to look airbrushed … so we kept all the detail that was in the original photography.” Fully CG digital doubles of the villains also were made for action sequences..

I imagine that it would have, after all these years. It would have to take a little reverse-aging and CGI to make them look the same as in the Sam Raimi universe.

Willem Dafoe: Green Goblin Mask Criticisms Probably Led to ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ RedesignWillem Dafoe is a comic book movie icon thanks to his performance as the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s 2002 blockbuster “Spider-Man,” but not everyone liked the way the character lo… From what they showed of the original suit, it looked way better than in 2002. Maybe the suit translates better to modern CGI than an actual suit? Maybe the shot was framed in the most precise way possible to look great? Either way, this was the first time I loved the Goblin. he NEEDS an oscar. it’s time.
