Kirk, a multidisciplinary artist, is passionate about using her art to spark conversations and to celebrate underrepresented communities. Much of Kirk’s work focuses on LGBTQ pride, but she has created pieces honoring everything from Hispanic culture to LGBTQ youth to women in the trade industry.

For the closing ceremony of this summer’s World Pride in New York City, a work of art celebrating the LGBTQ community was wrapped around Times Square’s main stage. For five days, this work took up an entire block, depicting large and powerful portraits of LGBTQ people, most of them people of color.

Kirk works in many art forms, but murals and public installations are among her favorite mediums. Their accessibility, she says, makes them the perfect way to spark dialogue within the communities where she works. Born on the South Side, Kirk and her family moved around to several different neighborhoods throughout her childhood. She spent her life immersing herself in different communities, which inspired her love of people and culture.
