From the teams it has beaten to the teams it will soon face, Rutgers football's season outlook improved during its much-needed bye week.

in nine years, achieving one of its biggest goals in efficient fashion, earning its sixth win in its eighth game of the season.preached to his players that they have “no limits,” a fitting mantra for where the Scarlet Knights sit with four games to go in the regular season. The feeling of playing with house money is an easy one for Rutgers to fall into after surpassing every reasonable expectation placed on it in the preseason, but Schiano’s squad has its eyes on the opportunities ahead.

The four-game post-bye stretch that Rutgers will close its season with — vs. Ohio State, @ Iowa, @ Penn State, vs. Maryland — looked daunting on paper in the preseason, but Saturday’s action was the latest proof that the Scarlet Knights could steal another win or two.Yes, even No. 3 Ohio State , which remained on pace for the College Football Playoff with a 24-10 win over Wisconsin in Madison on Saturday night.

- Maryland looked like an offensive juggernaut during its 5-0 start, beating Towson, Charlotte, Virginia, Michigan State and Indiana by a combined score of 193-66, scoring at least 30 points in each of those victories. But the Terrapins have slowed down significantly since, losing their last three games to Ohio State, Illinois and Northwestern.

Interim coach David Braun is building a case for Big Ten Coach of the Year after turning what could have been a dead season in the wake of a hazing scandal into Northwestern’s best campaign in three years. The Wildcats now stand within a game of first-place Iowa and Wisconsin in the Big Ten West and can leapfrog them with wins over them in the next two weeks.
