If firms were changing their cultures and policies to create a larger pool of qualified female directors, one would expect to see large gains in women occupying important executive roles. However, the evidence shows this is not necessarily what happens. In the shows that post-pandemic, women’s labor force participation rates have dropped in many countries, most notably in Italy and the Czech Republic.
